Me You And Us!
Exhibition from 27th of August – 23rd of October 2016
Celebrating Disability Action Week 11 – 17th of September 2016
Aiming to empower people with disabilities, to raise awareness and inclusion throughout the wider community and to ensure that people with disabilities live a life they choose with passion.
A group of adults with disabilities have sculpted 13 self portraits using clay, with the sole purpose of bringing the audience into contact with the artist’s soul and to raise awareness and acceptance of people with disabilities within the community.
Some of the artists depicted themselves with an unmistakable resemblance without ever looking into a mirror and other’s used abstract expressionism to interpret who they are.
Weekly, 2 groups of adults with disabilities join together in a social program at Liberty Community Connect. For many this is the only opportunity to be engaged in social activities, health and wellness
and creative Arts. The creative process of art improves and enhances the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals, while the artistic self-expression helps to resolve conflicts and problems, develops interpersonal skills, reduces stress, increases self-esteem and self-awareness and achieves insights.
